Clothe Me

At Raoul today, another six people mistook me for one of their staff. Sometimes I really wanted to tell them off.

"Look at their staff. They are casually dressed. In what ways do I look like one of them?"

But upon seeing their sheepish expression, I relented and answered whatever questions they had. I just love watery, innocent eyes and their angelic faces. Like what Thomas said, "How nice we have girlfriends who buy these Raoul for us!"

Yes, I have decided to put my purchases to a full stop. After getting another 3 shirts and a pair of shoes today.

I have gotten 5 shirts for myself at $423 (including alteration), a pair of shoes at $100 and 3 shirts for dad at $167. Today's only the 18th day of the month, but my expenses had escalated to over $3100.

I was glad Raoul decided not to put the black shirt on the extreme right on sale. I would have felt so cheated. After all, I spent 200 bucks on it.

Geraldine was nice to accompany me for lunch before going for her facial. She had went on to sign up a $999 package this afternoon only to regret 'cus she could have gotten herself a LV with that sum of money (obviously plus at least $600 more).

Anyway, today's topic is about clothes. Since GSS has started, at least at Isetan and Robinsons.

Singaporeans are learning to dress up. Women have the advantages 'cus their clothes are relatively cheaper. We shan't go to their cost of make-up 'cus we know they are expensive.

But there's a big difference between being appropriately dressed and being stylishly dressed. Majority are only appropriately dressed, be it in Zara, Raoul, G2000, Burberry. I know I had said clothes maketh a man. But I shall complete that sentence... Package defines a man.

Clothes may make you look good, but not stylish. Anyone can afford a $400 Burberry shirt (just that only if he is willing to spend). I say, don't cheapen the brand please.

Just this week alone, I have seen guys and girls carrying the Bastille, but I thought it doesn't look good on them. Because they don't have the package.

So how to look stylish?

Honour your tailor.

Even the best suits need altering. Not everyone is born with the same body type. And don't go around thinking a piece of clothing is designed for your body type. Pants need to be shortened, jackets need to be brought in, sleeves need to be narrowed (yes, you can ask your tailor to slim down your sleeves), and buttons need to be realigned with buttonholes (most guys' shoulders aren't entirely even, meaning your jacket often sits a bit askew). You should always buy your correct size, but you then need to have a tailor customize it to your body.

When choosing socks, the basic rule is to consider the suit instead of the shoe - in other words, if you're wearing a navy suit with black shoes, reach for navy socks. And when wearing a light suit, make sure the socks are darker than the suit but a shade or so lighter than the shoes. Please. Don't wear white socks. It's plain ugly.

My new Raoul shoes are in brown. Love them to bits. How to wear them? Remember this rule: The colour of the shoes must be the same as of the belt.

Another pair of brown shoes.

While black dress shoes are easy - they're understated and tasteful, brown dress shoes up the style factor. People notice them. They go best with gray, khaki, or navy. Dark brown shoes are easier to pull off than light brown ones.

I agree many guys out there do not like pointed shoes, citing that they are not comfortable. But I see myself wearing only those shoes. Gives you the sharp look.

Pants are important. Baggy pants are no-nos. Go alter or tailor them.

Those of you who are working in Tanjong Pagar area, you may try Yin Yin Fashions at 1 Tanjong Pagar Plaza #02-16. Many hotel guests from Amara have their clothes altered there.

Think you are stylish already? Not yet.

Have an expensive haircut. Don't be sloppy.

Trim your eyebrows. I had mine threaded today. A little painful, but it's better than plucking. It's faster and it gets rid of those fine hair. You can try threading at Reflexion Beauty Centre at Peninsula Plaza. They do threading for eyebrow, upperlip, chin, cheeks.

All these may make you look stylish, but you ain't stylish if you still don't have the package.

Watch how you sit, behave, move your hand, drink from the cup, talk...

Aritey, I'm tired. Shall leave you with a himbo joke.

Which genre is the rabbits' favourite?

Yup, you're right. It's hip-hop.

Kk, another one.

A plate said to another plate on the dining table, "Lunch's on me."

The end.
