Marina Mandarin

The stay at Marina Mandarin has came and gone just like that. It was really nice to feel pampered, to be greeted wherever you go. We don't get that on a typical day, do we?

Saturday started by accompanying dad to change tyre. It got punctured by a nut. It was insane to see $95 fly off like that just because a 'nutcase' decided to have intercourse with the rubber.

Was still deciding on where to go when I reached City Hall. Gerrie was going to be late, and I thought it would be a nice idea to surprise her with a pair of tickets to Dim Sum Dollies, which was highly recommended by Joyce and Emmanuael.

The play would commence in July only and I thought getting the preview tickets could save me some bucks. After all, $20 off one ticket is alot. But I was wrong. The cost of a pair was $120, including SISTIC fee of $4.

Plays are expensive affairs. It makes movie tickets seem so cheap. Sigh.

When Gerrie arrived, I led her to Coach where the new designs are in the retail stores. Pity Jasmine couldn't get for us from Oklahoma. Catherine's friend who happened to be in the States couldn't find the design Gerrie had placed priority for, as they were out of stock.

We reached the hotel at 2pm and were quickly assigned to the room. We wasted no time in appreciating the hotel surroundings and hastened to the lift. Maybe, the only view we appreciated that moment was from the lift.

While in the lift, I had pressed the button to our floor but it didn't seemed to work. Gerrie took one of the cards issued to us and slot it into a card reader. Some more say me "Never come hotel before ah?" Damn malu lah.

So when we reached our door, I took the card and slot it in the card reader and push down the lever. Bloody thing don't buldge. Gerrie re-slot the card and remove the card simultaneously and the lever gave way!

Aiyo, how I know lifts and doors enjoy intercourse so much!

We were given a deluxe room, which was splendid. The scenary from the balcony, though familar, but was nice to look at from another perspective.

There's Conrad and Pan Pac, with views of their swimming pool. It was only when Gerrie pointed out that I realised Conrad's design showed the number 13. Of all numbers?!?

Then there's the new Ferris Wheel. Allow me to digress abit. I've seen the price plans for this coming attraction and it can get quite expensive. But I've been telling Gerrie that confirm alot of guys would go up there to propose. Those guys who have no ideas yet want to act romantic types.

We wasted no time and headed for the pool. There was no sun, thus we swam for awhile. I then left Gerrie for the gym while she went for her bath. By the time I was back, she was already famished, so we settled for dinner at MS.

We shopped abit before settling down at Big O. This outlet was set in a rather comfy surrounding and we chose to sit outdoors. It was a huge bonus that no one was smoking then.

Once again, we had our oh-i-love-it-so-much beer. Heh.

And this Bailey's cheese cake is a must-try! I couldn't taste the Bailey's even though Gerrie said there was. But in any case, the cheese is so smooth!

So while we were having our cakes, Gerrie's friends, Farah and Chong Wei, had arrived from Malaysia. I have read Farah's blog and have been amused by her sense of humour. Suddenly, it became a big thing to see them in real persons. It felt good to play hosts though the only place we brought them to was Suntec foodcourt. Lol. The tired couple was shagged out by the long hours of bus rides and retired back to their rooms, while Gerrie and I got some wine and maggie back to our own room.

It was 8 in the morning, disturbed by the thunderstorm at night and worried by Gerrie's fever. Had a nightmare that it wasn't thunderstorm but there was a war going on outside.

Nothing of that sort happened. The only war I had was pulling myself out of bed and headed to the gym. Later, I rewarded ourselves with breakfast from McDonald's before going for a swim.

The packing of our bags was done almost quite reluctantly. By 2, we were out of the hotel and headed back home. Less than an hour later, we went back to Conrad to pick Farah and Chong Wei for dinner at ECP. The wait for carpark spaces was notoriously long.

The waters seem to be really blue today and felt good to breathe in fresh air. This is what a holiday is all about.

The food centre was already crowded. Beyond those food stalls lies a picture of people playing cable ski. Seems fun but I think it gets expensive.

We had stingray, kangkong, 'lala' (don't ask me why that name) and satay. Again, the wait at the BBQ chicken wing stall was long. My first time buying from that stall though. The Q said it all. Must be good la, even ah moh also queue up for the wings leh.

Our last stop for the day was at Gerrie's place because the couple wanted to experience a 'Singap0rean home'. It had been fun and I think they are really great people.

The weekends may be over, but we are surely looking forward to our trip on Thursday! =)

Money

Yet another boring post, but I need to sort things out. Too many payments to be made.

1. Funds
2. Hotel & air tickets
3. Trip itself
4. School fees
5. Specs

Of all places, I made my new glasses at Parkway Parade. I was there this evening with Gerrie after staying behind at her parent's store. This guy was telling me how the focal point of my present lens is way too off, and that the degree was over-powered, causing strain to the muscles of the eyes. He corrected the lens in half an hour and that alone was $90. All in all, my new Hugo specs cost me more than five hundred. And there's the additional cost of having to go back there next week to collect it. Sianz.

I was back in the office in the morning to meet HR. A contract was signed. Few hours later, a local bank called to offer an interview for a private banker trainee appointment.

We shall see how things go.

"The printing press is a communicative and ordering practice" Discuss.

Printing is, but, another mode of representation, communication and distribution of words or diagrams. It brings forth the translation and locomotion of ideas, thoughts and expressions into words and diagrams, and thereafter the distribution and preservation of the works of authors.

Without the advent of printing, it takes no imagination on our part to estimate how many of us would get to read the ‘Diary of Anne Frank’ or even the newspapers. The multiplication of printed copies rejects the oral notion and deviates from the notion of a real speech between real persons, replacing the hearing-dominance and bringing about consciousness and knowledge of the subjects.

Print may be consumer-oriented but it takes on an impersonal relationship between the authors and the readers. Readers may acquiescently subscribe to what the authors write, as it appears to be authoritative. Simultaneously, it denies response from the author. Prints may be devoid of personal touch but if articulated together with oral and electronic forms, readers can obtain a richer picture of a work.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrote a chunk of it in school and when I came home, I went "Wth, just complete it lah!". Even though there is no need for submission on my part. When I came to the 300th word, I realised I have exceeded too many words and was forced to cut down by half. By then, the discussion topic may not have link anymore. In any case, it's 2am+ and I'm terribly shagged.

School was lonely. Went for the make-up lesson and I knew no one there. The only consolidation I had was the receipt of my grades for the last semester. Terribly happy about it!

Am going back to office to meet up with HR later.

Enough of work and school. Holiday starts today!

Enjoy this beat boxer. It's really amazing to hear how somone can make such music.

Embarrassingly, this is our local version.

Maximising The Evening

We were looking forward to watch 'Phantom of the Opera', which also spells the coming of our first year anniversary. I left office on the dot, and met Gerrie at City Hall. We had 2 hours to spend before the show commenced. After a quick dinner, we went to Esplande, where it offered a grand view of some boys playing 'Move-and-you-die' game. I personally hated this game.

Because the rehearsal is held in the city, the volume had minimised. No more shouting of command like the whole world owes the parade commander. Suddenly became more civilised. Lol. Hopefully, these people in green wouldn't disturb us this Saturday with their rehearsal and airplanes zooming by.

Looking forward to our stay on Saturday.

Whilst waiting for Gerrie's friends to turn up, we listened to a string performance by school students. Which was pretty good. But her friends took so long, we managed to listen to all 3 songs, which the finale was a 4-movement piece.

Which means they took a blardy long time lah!

As we entered the hall, I spotted this tai-tai with a limited edition LV bag! So bling! Lol.

From the picture, it looked as if she's holding a bag made of aluminium foil. Heh. Expensive, but tasteless.

In any case, Phantom of the Opera was fantastic. They injected humour, fear, love and sadness into the show. The singing was unbelieveable! The cast was great: the girls were so barbie-doll looking and the guys were so tall.

The masquerade scene was awesome, where the costumes were absolutely stunning. The explosions were amazing, but the gun powder lingered too long.

To sum it all, we enjoyed the show. Bravo!

The journey home was rough. I was so tired and had bought a can of milk to freshen things up.

The drink was too cute for me to handle.

I'm really tired now. Good night people. As for the rest of you, you all got no dreams ah?

Keep Chasing

Gerrie started her core leave today and would be enjoying 2 weeks off. She came down to my workplace and the visit gave me a surprise and everything turned out to be impromptu. We managed to get tickets to 'Meet The Robinsons' and left ten minutes to grab dinner. I struggled with my burger (not enough!), even though I have wolfed down a piece of bread, rasins, two tiny slices of cake and a Vitasoy. *Oops*

Meet The Robinsons was really funny. Almost too impossible, but it played up every child's imagination and ambition to become successful. But as we age, it becomes clearer that the future is quite uncertain. Most of us are no longer able to realise what we have envisioned or what has been mapped out in our almost invisible 5 year plan.

What's your dream?

Share with me what you have always dreamed of. Of things you always wanted, or of someone who have always wanted to become.

Rice has wanted to be a dj. Gerrie and I watched him in the semi-finals yesterday and I found him good. His voice was really dj-like and I'm sure I could never do as well as he did.

The bank is organising a 'Wall of Dreams', which would gather Singap0reans' dreams in a 17m long structure. You would be able to see this Wall at Taka on the first weekend in May. In fact, you are able to view the dreams of many others now at its website. The little red dots represent the dreams.

Like what the trailer has said, everyone on this planet has a dream. The question is how far are you willing to go to make it come true.

Please share with me your dreams and leave them at the tag-board. Tell me what kinda job you want to have, places you want to go, your retirement plans or even the things you always wanted to buy.

Anything. After all, it's your dream.

Talk To Me

Taking a new module called 'Cultures, New Media and Communications'.

I chose it over 'Service and Retailing' because I do not see the value in the latter. I thought Cultures, New Media and Communications would give insight on how different cultures relate to the type of media and how information can be communicated to you and me.

And it would look really nice on the cert, with the additional liner 'Minor in Communications'.

But this module isn't really about cultures per se. Rather, it emphasizes on presentation skills, be it verbally or written. The class tonight allowed us to present in small groups. It gave us a chance to reiterate what we have learnt during those 2 years. The hands, the body, the tone, the speed...

And then it gave us the chance to listen to what people think of your presentation skills. It took on a different learning perspective and I thought it was some cool shit. Yet, I dread the day we have to design 2 images, based on a given quote, show it to the class and give a 7-minute presentation on a individual basis.

How do you ever spend 7 minutes talking about 2 images?

I don't even spend that long talking about myself. *Laughs*

In any case, I'm suddenly motivated to wake up at 7:30 and go school tomorrow. Looking forward to my Burger King breakfast. Had been having lousy dinners for the past 2 evenings.

Work had been pretty shitty, but I choose to leave it behind the moment I step out of office. I guess the doctor's right. My asthma was triggered by stress.

I think people really need to talk. To get your feelings out. Many of us are afraid to do so. Especially when put in a difficult situation.

My stand is, just talk it aloud.

Else, one day you end up like shit like the video below.

Peace.

Did You Know...

Did you know BreadTalk has introduced a bread with wasabi filling? I have yet to try it but it had tempted me to buy it yesterday. But I said no.

Few hours later, under the influences of the girls, I ordered a bowl of mango sago. It has been a month or so since I had one, so I thought "Yeah, maybe I should have a go."

After all, I was feeling under the weather (excuses only).

Today, I have yet another bowl, together with a chicken pie, as dinner.

I'm fat.

Good night.

Dang

Not wanting to be typical Sing@p0reans, we didn't join Emmanuel in his quest for free Ben N Jerry's.

I had a great Korean lunch instead.

Holly molly smoke!

Work

Office was quiet. A little tad quiet than usual. After all, some of them were transferred to the split site. But my team was rather fortunate, at least the four of us remained together.

Someone forwarded a mail not meant for my eyes, depicting the pressure put on the front-liners. That person remarked, "Maybe you like to reconsider your dream of a PBA."

In any case, Big Boss is treating the entire 0ps to watch Wild Hogs. She wants to give a presentation before the screening of the movie but I went ahead to click the option 'Movie Only'.

But after watching the trailer, it doesn't seem so fun leh. Nvm la, free mah.

During lunch, I managed to secure an appointment with Salon kr+ next month. Read about them here.

-QUOTE-
Ethereal-beauties Maggie Cheung and Gong Li, fashion icon Kate Moss and famed hair-chameleon Linda Evangelista are all part of his client lists. Set in ever-chic Millenia Walk, KR + is a picture of clinical serenity. While they bear the name of an institution, the prices are not as outrageous as you will expect. Set at $75 for all hair lengths, gone are the worries of having to gauge what you will need to fork out. And when you know that your hair will remain gorgeous 2 months down the road, you know this is worth every penny.
-UNQUOTE-

And guess what???

It's free! My company is paying for the first 800 empl0yees who make the reservations. YEY!!!

Dinner was at Rice Table, in celebration of Jasmine's departure to the States.

She would be flying in a couple of days time. She has been talking about this trip since last year and it's finally happening. So happy for her that she's going to graduate soon.

Rice Table is set in a comfy environment, noting Indonesian architecture, characterized by the use of flamboyant decoration, intricacy of detailing, and the virtuosity of workmanship of the furniture.

What's most attractive was how the servers lay the table. Plates were placed on a silver tray, which warms the food. The variety of food was wide and the servings were aplenty. I couldn't resist the chicken, satay and potato.

After the re-org, our team had hardly the time to catch up. Therefore, this dinner made up for it.

Am feeling a little tired now. Would take my bath now. Night.

Boss

Every men wants to be boss.

And every men dream of being clothed by Boss.

I remembered I was waiting for a bus with Anthony many many years ago, when we were in Sec 3, and I asked him "Jeans very nice to wear meh?"

He turned his hips, pointed to the tag and replied, "Of course, when it is by Hugo Boss." In fact, he bought a couple of Boss jeans in a single purchase.

My first Boss merchandise was Hugo. The perfume was bundled with a Boss cd album. I paid for 2 sets at Tangs, the other set for Daniel. Not that I wanted to smell like him, but he had earlier paid for my LV wallet and thus the purchase to offset the payment.

To sidetrack, LV wallet cost only SGD240 at that time!

My second Boss merchandise was Bottled, a Christmas gift from Mom.

My third and fourth Boss merchandise were Hugo Boss Golf caps. One in white, and the other in black. I was crazy over caps in the past.

Going forward, it so happened one day Daniel and I were hanging out at Borders after school. We were leaning against the wall and Daniel took a step behind and realised he was stepping onto something. He looked down and saw a wad of cash. He picked it up and looked around but no one was searching for the lost money. We were rich! (Ok, not really. I think it's less than fifty bucks.)

I absolutely have NO idea why I suggested using that money to buy me a Boss underwear. And I absolutely have NO idea why Daniel agreed when he could have use that cash to get himself something else.

All I remembered was we went to Boss (Isetan), and I chose the design, with him paying it. And the cashier looked at us funnily. To think back about it, it had been an embarrassing scene.

And that's how I got my fifth Boss merchandise.

Oh btw, Calvins is better.

Last year, mom offered to buy me a pair of Boss underwear. To set the record straight, I shop for my own Calvins. It just happened that she doesn't know what to buy for my birthday. I was silly to reject to her offer. I ended up with NO present from her. Sigh.

My sixth Boss merchandise came in the form of this pair of sunglasses, which was unexpectedly cheap.

And today, I managed to find my FIRST Boss shirt! I was so happy can!!! Lol!

Next up, I'm hoping for a Boss suit! Yummy!

Dinner

Met my parents at Orchard where Dad attended a G0vt. hush-hush affair. He suggested dinner at Holiday Inn. I assumed wrongly and brought us all to Holiday Inn at Kim Seng Road. A phone call to the restaurant brought realization that it was at Holiday Inn Park View.

The opening of the elevator doors brought a rather awkward surprise. Everyone was dressed up, and I immediately felt so underdressed.

It happened that there was a wedding dinner. We then found our way to the Windows On The Park.

Upon entering WOTP, the captain greeted us and showed us to our seats. Gerrie was quick to notice the fondue.

The buffet spread was good. I had seconds for almost everything. Oops. From salmon, fresh prawns, lobsters, crayfishes, roasted duck, beef to... even durian. Lol.

The dinner at Window On The Park turned out to be good and we were even given complimentary parking.

But then again, the prices didn't come cheap. That is if we need to pay. =)

Weekend Started Yesterday

Went to office to put my bag down and headed to the clinic downstairs. The doctor examined me again and suspected me of being stressed out. The effects of exams. She gave me the ventolin with mild steriods and a day mc.

While I was there, I read the Tattlers, which featured this Joy perfume. I have came across this brand in several of my Marketing textbooks which described it as the costliest perfume.

There you are... the world's most expensive perfume, which cost more than USD2000.

Then there was the limited edition Louis Vuitton bag.

This LV Tribute bag costs USD38,394. It has patches of every material LV uses.

Then there's Mont Blanc diamonds.

Exciting are the lives the rich have.

I met Daniel at Orchard where he had breakfast at McDonald's. I didn't know they serve pink milo at Mac. Dan kept complaining how their bagels spoilt his entire breakfast.

We headed to q at Donut Factory at 10:45, and silly me didn't know it opened at 12:30, so we ended up q-ing up for the donuts for 2.5H. The Q was amazingly long, despite the shop wasn't opened yet. To think back, it felt quite loserish. But if Gerrie wants 'em, she will get 'em.

To make the trip worthwhile, I bought 3 boxes. A couple of people stopped by and talked to me about the donuts. A cleaner from a food court, where me and Gerrie had lunch at, asked if I'm selling these donuts! The popularity of dough with a hole. (But to set the record straight, these donuts do not have a hole in the middle of 'em.)

I dun think I ever would lose weight. According to MyBloodTypeShop, I am supposed to avoid chicken.

And that happens to be my favourite!

After lunch with Gerrie, I met up with Daniel again. I had almost wanted to get 2 shirts and a tie by Hugo but the shirts didn't fit quite well.

Eventually, we went to the library to borrow some books.

Acting intelligent, someone uh!

I tell you all, Vivo City is evil! There were so many things I wanted to get!

There's Havaianas, which cost SGD50.

And there's Zara bermudas, which cost SGD60.

Furthermore, I saw a really nice watch, which goes for SGD650.

Pairs of Nike and Pedro.

Gap clothes.

Of course, I wouldn't mind a PS3.

But the ultimate buy is this one.

I hate people touching my car. Lol.

There's this video clip where SAAB went to Taiwan. The cars went on 2 wheels, but what was really amazing was when the cars actually did a U-turn!!! That's not all. While the car was still on 2 wheels, one of the passengers pulled himself out of the car, stood on top and started to wave the SAAB flag. It was totally out of the world!

Going to sleep now. It's 2am!
